Jan 2 2013 A for Action!

A- Action!

Made this hat this morning after my hubby left for work… kind of like it so I think I will wear it.

I am going to be more active this year, besides photography, blogging, cooking, managing properties and our home, spending time with my hubby, and caring for his needs for work, etc., which is primary for me of course.  I have a few new goals!

I have a couple of projects in mind and will be brain storming with my friend later this evening, and I am very excited about it!  Hush, hush, can’t say just yet… but who knows?

This year is gonna be a fantastic one, I can feel it!!!

Jan 1.2013 Looking back with gratitude, forward with hope…

Jan 1, 2013 early morning sunrise with iPhone

As I look back at the past year I realize I have taken some pretty big strides toward my “bucket list”… I only call it that because everyone knows what that is.

  • I vowed to pick up my camera and start taking pictures, check!
  • I vowed to start posting to a blog daily to share my favorite photos, and thoughts, check!
  • I vowed to be of service to others by carrying the message, check!
  • I vowed to re-connect with my long lost siblings after almost 40 years, check!
  • I vowed to step out of my comfort zone by setting up a family Facebook page, check!

Now here it is 2013 and I am pondering how I want to grow this year.

  • I want to master the use of my camera and not count on blind ass luck
  • I want to exercise more
  • I want to creatively collaborate with my friend to start a new secret artistic project (we are sworn to secrecy until we choose our method)
  • I want to rewrite my children’s book

That’s a good start, and as the year progresses I know my list will evolve.

For me saying out loud what my heart is feeling is the beginning of the manifestation of dreams.

Look out 2013… here I come!

Blog of the Year 2012 Award

I want to thank Clark Kent for nominating me for my first Blog of the Year 2012 Award.  Since my blog is not a writers blog, but rather a collection of photographs and inspirational writings of others, I feel particularly blessed.

My mentors are other photographers who inspire and teach me as I am an amateur photographer with a pretty good eye.

The following is the rules for this nomination!

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award.

Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them

You can now also join the award’s Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience if you choose to

6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

Here are the nominees  I have chosen for the ‘Blog of the Year 2012:

1. Amazing Nature shots… one of my favorites, inspires me to take better photos and to see what Mike sees in nature.

2. Leanne Cole has been my teacher and mentor since I started on WordPress, she has so much free information that I have used daily as learning tools.

3. jakesprinter « Jakesprinter Sunday Post – Jake inspires me and others to be adventurous and get out and take photos of different topics weekly.

There are several others and I will add them later.

Three awards received from  I am so very honored. Please go by and take look at her blog,, which has won Blog of the year 2012 award.

Now to the rules….

1.Display the award logo on your blog,

2.Link back to the person who nominated you,

3.State seven things about yourself,

4.Nominate fifteen other bloggers for this award and link to them,

5.Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award’s requirements.

Here are seven things about myself:

  1. I am Happy, Healthy and In Love with my husband and my life!
  2. I am 67 years young.
  3. I love my family and the “herd” that I get my support and love from.
  4. I am a fledgling blogger, just been doing this since August and I love the blogging family I have met here.
  5. I am an amateur photographer and my goal is to learn all the functions of my camera
  6. I love New Orleans at Christmas. I plan to spend this Christmas there.
  7. I want to dance more often…

I have to nominate 15 bloggers for these awards. This is really hard as there are so many great blogs out there. So here are a few of the ones I love:

1. Amazing Nature shots… one of my favorites

2. Leanne Cole

4. jakesprinter « Jakesprinter Sunday Post

These are eight of the fifteen suggested… How do I choose?

Travel theme: Foliage

Thanks Ailsa for the invitation to take part in this weekely Travel celebration!  I had just read your post before the invite and it is fascinating to me.

I have a few of my favorite “leafy pics” I would like to share from the desert perspective.  Many of you have never traveled to the desert areas of Southern California, so I am giving you a tiny tour of the desertscape, as I like to call it.  Very different from the Northwestern conifers that I grew up with in Seattle, Washington, or the deciduous colorful falls in Athens, Ohio, where I lived over 35 years ago.  But I have grown to love my home and the desert environment I live in.  I hope you enjoy this little mini tour:

As little water is required in my yard since we planted vegetation that are eco friendly and require minimal moisture to thrive…

My Sago palm in my front yard in Palm Desert, CA.

and a few steps a away the tiny leaves of this Ocotillo show some tiny bugs trying to infest the plant, but we addressed their presence before they could do so 😉  The Ocotillo blooms when it rains, even a little bit…

and right next to the Ocotillo my this Agave is spreading like wildfire, we have to cut it back constantly from the bottom up…

and not far away is another agave type plant that is seeding right now…

In the backyard is this wispy little guy, not sure what it is called but it is varigated in color and interesting to look at~

And of course, my two favorite palm trees that stand guard over all of these, from their lofty perches.  I don’t have a close up of their foliage on hand but from a distance, they are still most regal:

At a local park, Cahuilla Park,  I  see a bigger variety of trees and plants which are just a couple of miles from my home in Palm Desert:

So without having to drive more than 10 minutes I get a variety of foliage in all shapes, textures and sizes… and for that I am very grateful!

Sunday Post: My Favorite Spot

As my bi-line in my blog states:  I am Happy, Healthy and In Love!  And that would not be possible if I hadn’t met my soul mate in 1988.  We have been in a committed relationship since January of 1989, and married since March of 1993. My husband David is my best friend and we have been through a lot together these last 23+ years.  My Favorite Spot is “With Him”

We went on some surf trips to Mexico in our early days..

My husband fell 30 feet back in August of 1993, and was in a coma for many days and wheelchair bound for 18 months. He had a spinal fusion, two knee replacements, shoulder surgery, and it was a tough road for many years.

Since then we have travelled some, to Hawaii a few times, to Lake Powell for some hiking and photography..

We love to laugh and play hide and go seek with one another… he makes me laugh a lot!!!

Last Christmas we went to San Francisco on a Christmas Cruise with his company

We love to travel, stay home or just watch football all Sunday on NFL Redzone!!!  I feel blessed to have a soul mate who “gets” me, and doesn’t try to change me… through thick or through thin we are in this together!!

How could this not be my “Favorite Spot”?  At my husbands side… til death do us part, and beyond!!!
